Children can be hard to bed shop for at times, so here is a guide to the types of bed that you may like to get for your children. All of them are available in a single bed size, perfect for youngsters.

Traditional bed: Obviously a normal traditional bed style is an option for children. The benefits of this type of bed are those such as the room to store boxes and toys underneath them (as well as being able to play hide and seek if there is room!) and the fact that this type of bed will easily last a child through until late adolescence, when they may prefer to upgrade to a double or go for a more ‘modern’ looking frame to suit their development. The traditional bed can be made fun for young children with headboards readily available in nice shapes, such as footballs, that may suit their interests. This can make bedtime that little bit more tempting and allow a child to inject their personality onto their room, as well as having the benefit of being easy to change to a regular headboard whenever they grow out of the design that was chosen. It you get a divan bed, then drawers or a spare pull out mattress can be built in below the mattress, giving you extra storage space or the ability to accommodate a guest.

Cabin bed: Cabin beds are fantastic for children. Slightly higher than a traditional bed, they will have a small ladder built into the side of the wood they are made from, to allow the child to climb up onto it. A cabin bed can have a variety of things built into the part that elevates the mattress higher, and this is what makes them special. Some will have an open space for part of it, that may have a desk built in, or storage shelves. Some have wardrobe space for clothes or, in some really organised newer styles, they may look like they have drawers, but you can actually pull them out, so a piece of solid wood can jut out to make a stand alone desk, with a chair pulling out from the part of wood under it, which looks like a cupboard door. The seat of the chair may then lift to show a small storage box which would be hidden when the seat is down. This is an excellent way to provide your child study space, without having to clutter the room with excess furniture. The side of cabin beds can sometimes be style to look like a castle/ boat or other design, to make a bed that is really fun and innovative for your child.

Bunk beds: Another firm favourite with children. A double bunk can easily sleep siblings, or your child and a friend who may wish to sleep over. If your child wants a bunk bed, but has their own room, then try getting one where the bottom layer is half desk space and half a padded chair which is built in. This chair will be like a mini sofa, and can pull out to create an extra bed when it is needed. You can also get bunk beds without the desk part, where your child can have their own sofa on the bottom, which would pull out to accommodate two friends.

These three bed styles are all firm favourites with children and will optimise the space in there, generally slightly smaller, rooms.
