Unfortunately due to all these modern equipment and devices that have been invented and mass produced throughout the world, there have been millions and millions of batteries consumed and are left to waste. For a vast majority of households, unusable batteries are disposed of within their bins and what they did not know is that it can be harmful to both the environment and the wildlife.

Batteries should either be recycled or disposed of in a correct manner which is why there are now more and more companies set up throughout the UK and the rest of the world to collect unusable and unwanted batteries so they can be disposed of correctly or recycled. The government have introduced a battery recycling scheme whereby all batteries which are no longer useful to the person, can be put in battery bins for recycling. These bins are located in a number of places with some supermarkets having these bins available for their customers to use.

Although batteries have been considered by many as household wastes, the government have began to try and encourage more people to dispose their unwanted and unusable batteries within dedicated battery bins to prevent even more damage to the environment. There is also a legislation brought out so that all retailers from February 2010 which sells over 32kilograms of batteries to provide free battery collection.

Due to this legislation, more battery bins are required to support this legislation and with so many retailers across the UK selling batteries, companies selling battery bins are actually seeing their battery bins being sold more often. Regardless of the type of battery it is, if they are disposed in an incorrect manner, they can be hazardous and also a waste of resource.

Unfortunately with the prices of batteries being low, we as consumers have been taking batteries for granted due to the so many gadgets available around our homes. There are many companies set up throughout the UK which offers free battery collections and as long as people make the effort to dispose their batteries within the battery bins provided, a lot more can be done to help the environment.
