The first idea is to take your time. Plenty of diets promise quick results, but they usually don't last. Lasting change comes with slow changes applied consistently over time. It took a long time to get fat, and it's going to take a long time to get skinny. When you give yourself plenty of time, you release the pressure and anxiety of having to lose a certain amount of weight by a certain time. Go slow. There's no rush. You've got a lifetime to get and stay in shape.

The second tip is to give yourself between two and four cheating days a month. Either every weekend, or every other weekend. No matter which eating plan you choose, there's going to be some foods that you want to eat, but can't. Give yourself a couple hours on Saturday, or whenever, and just binge like there's no tomorrow. Looking forward to a binge day will give you the strength to make it through the week.

Another good idea is to only eat three meals a day. No snacks in between, and nothing a few hours prior to going to sleep at night. This will give your body plenty of opportunity to switch into fat burning mode, which is when you actually lose the most weight. If you eat small snacks during the day, even they are ultra healthy, you are robbing your body of the opportunity to switch from burning food for fuel to burning fat for fuel.

The last tip is to get some exercise. Any exercise will do, so long as you do it consistently. It doesn't matter if it's walking around the block, or running ten miles every night when you get home. So long as you are consistent, you'll see some positive results.

When you apply these ideas most of the times, you really can't fail. Eat three healthy meals a day, avoid most snacks, exercise most days, and don't rush yourself, and you'll do fine.
