Minimalist shoes are a rather new innovation sparked by the realization that walking or running barefoot was essentially significantly healthier and a lot better for the body. The natural mobility made possible by these kinds of shoes is focused on reducing strain on one's feet and legs and averting lower back pain or poor posture. It was because of the movement towards living in cities that we started wearing shoes. Concrete, absence of grass, sharp objects all restricted our ability to move around in a barefoot manner. The Greeks began wearing sandals to shield their feet on long marches and from city risks, then fashion got a hold of the footwear business which completely changed the perspective from health to visual appeal which further negatively impacted our feet.

Despite the fact that we might have lost much of our capability to go entirely without shoes inside the city limits, the invention of minimalist footwear has allowed us to fuse our natural movement with our current environment. Conventional shoes can often force us to land with a thud on our heels sending enormous amounts of stress and strain up the back of our legs and into our knee joints or the foundation of our spinal column. Minimalist footwear helps to return some of that tactile feeling which our feet would offer if barefoot and at the same time act to distribute the weight a lot more evenly across the foot as a whole.

Due to the increase in foot, knee and back issues, more consideration has been directed towards what we wear on our feet and just how it effects us. Almost anything you can think of from bicycles to car seats are being remodelled to be more ergonomic so that the products can benefit our natural body positioning as opposed to working against it. Shoes are no different, we must to wear the correct minimalist footwear to promote a strong state of being. A good pair of minimalist shoes is an investment in a person's long term personal and overall health.
