Backlinks As The Basis Of Online Marketing - By: thaliae91

Online marketing in the form of backlinks is the main activity that a website and the underlying business can engage in these days to attract visitors and make money. No wonder then that it has turned into such a professional service and a science. Entire teams and skilled project managers are assigned to work on it using specific methods and software.

Let's start by considering the nature of the beast. The number of backlinks a page has is one of the factors that help search engine algorithms decide how high to rank a page in the SERPs. The simple way to put it is that more incoming links leads to a higher ranking.

Obviously there are many finer points to be considered, regarding the type and value of links and how they are acquired. So a directory listing in a well known and high-value domain with lots of visitors is very valuable. So are organic links which are given to the website naturally, such as mentions on articles in external websites or in blog posts.

These are free and one-way links. The links can also be paid one-way links, or two-way or three-way links where the website in question provides a link(s) back to the other party. There can be deep links, which are incoming links pointing to a specific page, instead of the home page.

Let's just say that link building campaigns are complex, and require the services of an expert. There is even software available that can automate some of the work, and also help keep track of links and dig up relevant sites to contact for links. Even so, in order to see some significant traffic boost from the search engines, there has to be a team doing all kinds of things, including link deals, directory and article submissions, social media and blog comments.

To be noted that there's a bit of a grey area here, as far as SEO is concerned. Sometimes, a link building team can lose track of what's right (and how far to take it) in the intense competition to rank high for a specific keyword. Some things need to be done in moderation, like posting do-follow blog comments.

In summary, backlinks are the bread and butter of online marketing campaigns. If it doesn't work, the business won't get any traffic or sales on its website. Needless to say, consumers today buy from a company only if there's a website where they can find out more. A properly run campaign is therefore essential to get customers to visit the site.
