Back to Black - Redecorating your house - By: kalijm6

When it comes to interior decorating why are so many people weary of black? It is, in its own unique way a neutral after all. Perhaps the worry is, that, using black will make spaces seem darker and smaller. That need not be the case. Making use of black - and implementing it sensibly - can bring about a real transformation by updating a space from uninteresting and drab to exhilarating, stylish not to mention contemporary.

Only a Tad

If that hasn't swayed you that you want to try out major scale noir, maybe merely put in a suggestion here and there to begin with. Consider the stuff in your own home you might ordinarily paint white like doors, window sills or skirting panels and paint them black as a substitute. To begin with it's a lot more practical and forgiving that white in some cases - particularly areas exposed to knocks and bumps and not to mention small, grubby hand and footprints!

Another way to subtly introduce black into your interior scheme is via art and accessories. Choose a print or 2 (or even 3) with lively artwork on a black background for a really gorgeous piece of artwork or, maybe, a few monochrome etchings in the instance that something more modest will better co-ordinate with your current décor. The same pertains to soft furnishings. All black fabric are fantastic and to really emphasize their presence and have differentiation on even a single colour palette, vary their textures. Try shimmering sequins adjacent to deep, luxurious faux fur in addition to silky satins for a truly opulent feel.

Make a Feature of it

Why not paint a feature wall black or go for a dark, moody and rich wallpaper? The feel will be intimate and luxurious. Joined together with pale colors or even white you can utilize black as the cornerstone of a interesting, laid back loft-style scheme. Many of the current geometrics we are noticing in fabrics and papers are black and not simply white but gloriously vibrant acid yellows and greens, hot pinks in addition to all electric blues.

What About a Black Backdrop !

Now, if that sounds like overkill, in certain places you would be right. As with any colour, employ black if the light, space and style of your room and the furnishings and fittings you're not in a position to change lend themselves to this colour which is at once delicate and bold. Black, as the principal colour in the room really can make other feature colours, designs and furniture shine. Just imagine dozens of scarlet cushions against a cool black leather lounger or aqua blue or berry toned ones alongside rich black velvet. The best colour to show furnishings off against is of course black.

In with the Coral - Out with the White!

Naturally black and white really are long time companions and the teaming won't ever go out of style though season after season it reinvents itself. A year ago many of us were enjoying black and white lace prints together with etchings on anything from bedding and wallpaper to home furniture itself. This seasons monochrome is a lot more masculine and hard edged with the geometrics mentioned earlier at its heart and type face prints with strong messages adorning walls. On the vintage side, marquetry, inlaying and enamelling are going to be to the fore next year all with an emphasis on artisan quality.
My big prediction for 2012 though is black and...wait for it...coral. Not the pinkish coral of Summer 2009 that was terminally teamed with duck egg, but a richer, warmer more orange version. This combination is already making its way into soft furnishing fabrics and could be huge in 2012
