Baby Colic Remedies - Parents Effective Colic Relief For Babies - By: Julie Freeman

There actually isn’t any one single infant colic treatment that has proven itself to be absolute in curing colic in babies.
However there are ways to make life easier for both you and your unsettled colicky baby.
You should firstly check to see if your baby is hungry, with young babies, simply place your finger under his chin and if he tries to suck or move toward it, then he is hungry.

The best natural baby colic remedies that you can do to calm colic in babies are as follows:

Walk with your baby or sit in a rocking chair. The continuing movement is always soothing to a baby. Just be sure to place her head near your chest so that she can hear your heartbeat. I definitley found that using a rocking chair in my baby's nursery was very calming and sleep inducing, the rocking motion was instantly calming. I would feed my baby in the rocking chair with the light quite dark in her room. If you are bottle feeding, don't rock too fast as the sloshing motion of the milk in the bottle can cause your baby to gulp air and cause more colic episodes, a gentle, slow rocking motion is ideal.

Try burping your baby more often during feedings. Sometimes this can wake your baby up a bit, especially if your baby has reflux, so just continue your walking or rocking a bit more after burping, then put your baby to bed.

Place your baby across your lap while she lies on her stomach and rub your baby's back. This will help get air out of her tummy and prevent gas. If she burps, even better.

Put your baby in a swing as this swaying motion may have a soothing effect, and provide infant colic relief

Put your baby in a car seat and go for a drive. The vibration and movement of the car are often calming, an occasional quick ride in the car helps the baby to fall asleep, don't do this too reguarly or your baby may get too used to going for a ride in the car to relax, and that could become a problem for you.
You can also place her on a washing machine or running dryer, the movements and the sounds are very soothing and give colic relief for babies.

Play music like classical or slow music as some babies respond to sound as well as movement. I found 'Pachelbel Forever By The Sea' was very soothing to both of my
babies that had severe gastric reflux causing colic. Even when my daughter was older and able to talk she would ask to have her 'sleep music' on to go to sleep by, I kept a small CD player in my baby's nursery. I played the same music CD to both of my daughters over and over again, it's very soothing and relaxing orchestral music set to ocean sounds, playing the same music provided a reminder that my baby would recognise that it was time for sleep.

Stopping the baby’s crying spells as quickly and calmly as possible can drastically shorten the episodes of infant colic.
It makes sense to address the crying as quickly as possible. To do this, try picking up your baby and immediately start the cuddling and walking effort. It often helps to firmly, but gently, squeeze the baby’s upper arm or lower leg in a slow pulsing manner. You can also try to walk outside with the baby where the sounds of birds and the breeze in the trees or nature in general can calm a baby.

You can use the pacifier as well to stop the crying, but if it doesn’t work, a small bottle of sugar water helps give colic relief for babies.

Then of course you can also dance with your baby. The dancing motion of slowly moving from side to side can be quite helpful. I usually only did this in the day time but my baby loved this and would usually fall asleep in my arms, you even get a bit of exercise yourself.

You can also try to distract your baby. You can use almost anything like an unusual sound from a squeaky toy or rattle, to running water in the sink, the vacuum cleaner or even the hair dryer. All these things tend to have a temporary effect of interrupting the colic outburst long enough to calm the baby down before it gets too bad.

Give Your Baby a Routine
This is in knowing that the colicky episodes are coming up and being ready for it. Your baby will generally follow a specific time schedule for these episodes.
Try having your child nap at the same time every day. In doing this, you will be able to set it up so that your child will become sleepy at this time automatically and expect to sleep. This is where playing soft music comes in useful, your baby soon learns the routine of sleep when they hear soothing music. It will certainly make it easier for you.

Following this, give feedings and baths etc. at the same times as well. The routine of it will help your baby to better adapt to his day, which may cause the colicky episodes to be farther apart.

If by chance you find that you don't have complete colic relief with the baby colic remedies in this article and the other natural baby colic cures in the Ebook 'Baby Colic Cures - 10 Ways To Help Your Baby Sleep Through The Night,' another option I would recommend is that you find a paediatric chiropracter or paediatric osteopath before choosing to medicate your baby with any of the drugs available to treat colic in babies as they can have adverse side effects often as bad as the colic itself. Paediatric chiropracters and osteopaths are quite gentle with babies, yet can be quite effective in treating colic in babies, however I do hope that you and your baby will find complete colic relief by following the natural baby colic remedies in this
