Swami Ramdev (1965 - ), also known as Baba Ramdev, is an Indian, Hindu swami. He is chiefly well-known for his labors in popularizing Yoga.
His yoga camps are attended by a large number of people. People follow his yoga camps through TV channels and video. He is also one of the founders of the Divya Yoga Mandir Trust that aims to popularize Yoga.

Ramdev was born as Ramkishan Yadav in 1965, in Alipur in the Mahendragarh area of Indian state of Haryana. He attend school till the eighth grade in Shahjadpur.
He then joined a gurukul in Khanpur village to study Sanskrit and Yoga. Eventually, he renounced worldly life and enter into Sanyas (monastic living) - taking his present name.
He then went to Jing district and joined the Kalva gurukul and accessible free Yoga training to villagers across Haryana.
As a promotional vehicle for Yoga, Baba Ram Dev established the Divya Yoga Mandir Trust in 1995. In this project, he was accompanied by Acharya Karamveer and Acharya Balkrishna. The headquarters of the trust are at the Kripalu Bagh Ashram of Haridwar. Baba Ramdev teaches yoga mainly at this ashram.

Swami Ramdev has trained several aspects of customary Indian scriptures such as Ashtadhyayee, Mahabhashya and Upanishads along with six systems of Indian Philosophy in various Gurukuls (traditional Indian systems of education).
Awards and recognitions

In January 2007, KIIT University awarded Swami Ramdev with an Honorary Doctorate degree in credit of his efforts at popularizing the Vedic science of Yoga. The degree was obtainable to him in a ceremony presided over by the respected scientist and Nobel laureate Richard Ernst.
He has helped establish Gurukuls in Kishangarh,Gharshera and Mahendragarh in India. He has also found P Y P Trust, which has built several institutions.
In adding to helping people learn about Yoga and religion, these institutions also provide a complete facility that promotes the practice of Ayurveda -the customary system of holistic medicine developed in India.

His Yoga Pranayama educational show is transmit on numerous TV channels daily.

He has been conduct Yog science camp frequently all over the country, and from time to time abroad as well. In 2006, the Ramdev spent approximately a month in London teaching Pranayam and Yoga.

HIV & AIDS:

On 'India TV' & pair of other TV Channels, on Dec. 22 & 23, 2006, Swami Ramdev Ji said that Yoga Pranayama & the Aurvedic & Herbal Medicines optional by him can control & cure AIDS. He additional that the CD4 Cell count of the people affected by AIDS, which had fallen to 50; 100; 150 have gone up to 400; 500; & even 600, which is quite normal. He extra that even the people with CD4 Cell count of 5 to 10 have benefit. CD4 cells (T4 count, T-helper cells) are a class of immune cells that slowly get depleted in HIV infection.

On Dec. 22 & 23, 2006, 'India TV' also showed a lady, declaring openly, in one of his Yoga Science camps to have been cured of AIDS. This lady had approach to know that she had AIDS, after she lost her husband due to AIDS.

Cancer:

Quoting from page 55 of the monthly magazine "Yog Sandesh" (English) September 2006 issue, of Swami Ramdev Ji's Trust in India, "Yoga Guru Swami Ramdev while address the people said that Yoga & Pranayama have been winning in curing 200 cancer patients and he is prepared to give evidence. The very old science is also beneficial in case of AIDS and experiment are being approved out in that area. He would make formal statement once the tests are completed".
