BMX bikes can vary considerably in price. Generally, the more expensive the BMX bike the better the quality. Many potential buyers are confused, however, at what exactly they would be paying extra for.

The main factor that usually pushes the price of a BMX bike into the higher spending bracket is the use in its construction of a more expensive super-strength steel alloy known as chromoly. What excites BMX riders about chromoly is not the fact that it is stronger than steel but that far less of it is needed to match steel’s strength. This results in lighter components which, when integrated into a BMX bike, make that bike easier to handle and manoeuvre.

From mid-range BMX bikes with one or two BMX parts being made from chromoly such as the fork or cranks, through to top of the range BMX bikes with an entire frame made from chromoly, their comparative lightness will easily attract experienced BMX riders.

The second ingredient of a high-end bracket BMX bike can be the use of more sophisticated components. Three-piece cranks for example are likely to be more durable than one-piece cranks. Likewise, sealed cassette hubs on the rear wheels are less likely to become damaged than unsealed versions.

Finally, a strong brand name is usually a reliable indicator that a lot of effort has been put into a bike’s overall design. Much more than a superficial fashion statement any branded BMX product will usually have enjoyed practical design input from a professional BMX rider with a view to improving rider performance.
