Auto Insurance Rates From The Internet - By: shay

Why are most Americans over paying for car insurance? It seems the television commercials today are bombarding viewers with auto insurance advertisements, telling viewers how easy it is to save money on car insurance with just a few minutes of time. So what could be wrong with this scenario?

How about the fact that the commercials do not offer the viewer any explanation on how to actually go about saving money getting rate quotes from these carriers. So, let me shed some light on how and what you can do to actually get lower rates, not just a bunch of quotes for lower rates.

These are a few simple suggestions that can lead to big savings with car insurance rates.

1.Raise your deductible amount to the highest amount you can. You only pay the deductible amount when you have a claim, and that claim is paid by your carrier. So two things have to happen before you will be responsible for paying the deductible amount. If you have a clean driving record with no accidents in the last 7 years, you will save a ton of money on premiums and not have to worry much about filing a claim to begin with.

2.Ask for discounts! Do you belong to a credit union or a fraternal organization? Are you a student with good grades, have you taken defensive driving, do you only use your vehicle for short distances, does your vehicle have all the latest safety restraints? If you answered yes to any of these, you most likely are eligible for a discount on your premiums.

3.Do you have a good credit score. If yes, you will most likely get lower rates than those with a bad credit score.

4.Do you have other insurance policies you can combine together...like homeowners?

5.Are you married? Getting hitched can help lower your rates. If you are female, you will get a lower rate than males will (sorry guys) but getting married can help both of your insurance rates in the long run.

6.Get quotes online. Seems like a no brainer I know, but many carriers are offering “Internet specials” for those that will type in their own information on their websites rather than calling a call center and having an agent do the date entry for them.

So not only can you take a few minutes of your time to watch those TV commercials and get rate quotes, but now you have a few questions to ask the agent that can drastically reduce your premiums.

It would be a good idea though to use an alternate email address and your cell phone number when you fill out those online quote forms just so you don't get harassed by annoying phone calls during meal times.

Once you start to get quotes, use the lowest quotes to bargain with the other agents. Get each agent to beat the lowest quotes you have received so far. This can be time consuming, but trust me, it will be worth your time with low long term premiums.
