Australian batsmen out of form, India needs to take advantage - By: Neil Jhonson

WITH THE first Test match between India and Australia scheduled to start from 26 December, the Australian team is already in a spot of bother, as their top order is out of form and some of them are suffering from injuries too, which might weaken the Australian team. Their batting has looked wobbly in the recent matches that they have played. Indian bowlers can use this to their advantage and pile more pressure on these batsmen.

Gone are the days for the Australian team, when Hayden and Langer used to torment bowlers when they walked into the crease to bat, which was followed by a strong middle order. At present, they do not have a permanent opening pair too. Shane Watson, Shaun Marsh, Phil Hughes, and David Warner are some of the openers who have been used in the recent past by Australia, but Marsh has already been ruled out from the first Test, reports The Times Of India and Watson’s injury might also not allow him to play in the first Test.

The Indian bowlers need to take note the fact that these batsmen were susceptible to swing bowling, as witnessed in their last series.
Zaheer Khan, who is coming back from an injury, would be leading the Indian attack. He will be playing a vital role in giving major breakthrough with the new ball. Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav would be the second and the third pacers respectively. Both Zaheer Khan and Ishant Sharma have had the experience of playing down under. It was during India’s last tour of Australia that Ishant came to prominence. Yadav could be an element of surprise for the Australian team, as he has been consistent in the chances that he has got and he could surprise many a players with his pace too. He is an unknown factor for the Aussies.

Other Australian batsmen such as Ricky Ponting, David Hussey and Brad Haddin have come in for criticism from several experts, as they have not been able to come up with good consistent scores, especially with such an important tour ahead. The Australians would want these players to fire else they could be fired from the team.

The Indian team would want to erase the memories of their last tour to England where they were thrashed by England. The Australian tour would provide a great chance for the Indian team to win an away series as they have some many players who are in good form and to the contrary the Australians are still in search for form.
