Satellite giant Sky have announced a new deal offering Sky Sports subscribers a six month period of free Sky nomadic TV and Online actor services. As from July 12th until December 31st, Sky Sports subscribers can watch mobile and online TV services as competition hots up in the digital UK TV market.

This means that existing subscribers can watch premium sports content on a number of mobile devices such as smartphones, iPad, PC, Mac and set-top boxes. Streams of full Premier League football and Sky Sports News will be available to view.

“Delivering Sky Sports and Sky News content over multiple devices – including HD over the set top box, online and on mobile – gives our subscribers more choice and control over when and where they enjoy our services, providing more prize and appliance,” said Sky chief operating officeholder Mike Darcey. “By offering advanced access to Sky Sports across Mobile TV and Sky Player, we are providing a rattling accessible multiplatform experience for our customers.”

A survey in Australia has shown that live internet tv viewing audience are streaming to the pc rather than an internet connected television set. The survey by Fairfax Media shows that the pc will not be muscled out by newfangled technology
It is a widely held belief, put about by tv networks and manufacturers, that a big television try out is the best place to watch full-length TV shows streamed from the web. However the Fairfax digital arm says that in the survey of 10,157 viewers, 25% revealed they watched full-length TV shows and movies on the web. Of those 95% used the pc screen rather than the television screen to view them. 64% said they viewed streams in the evenings on a laptop computer or pc.

”Crowding around a PC with a mouse in hand is not specially contributive to watching those full-length programs. People are also more likely to be watching on their own because of that,” he said. ”Internet TV will become a normal viewing habit and for a good viewing experience we take that can only really be on the TV.”

It is in the manufacturers interest to convince us all that the TV is the place to view online tv. Of course, the new wave of web connected television sets have not infiltrated into the market enough to see which way the viewers will sway.

Iplayer is getting more popular. Are you watching?
Erik Huggers, responsible for the iPlayer, said the catch-up TV platform would soon boast partnerships with the likes of Facebook and Twitter, to make the iPlayer viewing experience “more social”.
“We are close to launching the third version of the iPlayer in beta which will have many more social functions embedded within it,” Mr Huggers said. “People will be able to bring their Facebook friends onto the iPlayer so they can share what they are listening to or watching with each other more easily.”
Most popular show was the live episode of EastEnders, which marked the show’s 26th anniversary. Over 1.13 million people streamed the show via the iPlayer service to find out who killed Archie. Many viewers wanting to rewatch the show to check for mistakes made over the live 30 minutes of content.
