Asking a Date to Prom - By: Art Gib

With prom season coming up, you are probably thinking about all the preparations you need to make. Things such as the buying a dress, choosing the perfect shoes, picking out a hairstyle, and arranging for your limo. But what about the most important part... the date?

Well, you can wait around to be asked, but why not take matters into your own hands? Choosing and asking a date to prom may sound scary, but it's a fun part of the prom experience, and asking instead of waiting to be asked puts the control in your hands.

Asking the date that you want might be scary, but doing it in a fun and creative way can take some of the edge off and make it a memorable experience for both you and your date. If there is something that you can think of that he likes, then go ahead and do that, otherwise pick a creative way to ask from any number of fun surprises that are sure to get him to say yes.

Traditionally, people have sent devices to do the asking and made it difficult to discover who the asker was. Here are a few ideas.

Use a regular, white t-shirt and write "Will you go to Prom with me?" in permanent marker, placing the words all over the shirt. Then, using a regular washable marker, write other words to fill in all the white space. If you and he have inside jokes, use fun words that describe your relationship. Then, deliver it to his house with instructions to put it in the wash. After he washes it, only the question will remain and you'll get your answer!

How about making a puzzle? Using cardstock or cardboard, write out your request to go to Prom with him in large letters, and then cut it up into individual puzzle pieces. Use something creative to put the puzzle pieces in, such as a lunch box or cute bag, and then leave it with instructions to put it together. He'll have fun putting the puzzle together, and then be blown away when he finds out you want to go to prom with him!

It's also fun to write your question on his car while he is in class. You'll need some liquid chalk (test it out before you write it all over his dad's car!) and be creative. Use it on the glass parts of the car only, such as the windshield and windows. He'll be surprised when he comes out of class to see his car decorated.
