Are You a True Hiker? - By: Leticia Huber

Are your feet the kind that enjoys taking you to mysterious narrow paths amongst Fir trees, myriads of wild ferns and tiny wet fresh flowers for your eyes and nose to enjoy, view and scent?

Maybe your feet prefer tougher paths up hill, through the heavy, scented woods of Fort Worden? Maybe your feet want to end the hike on top of a magnificent cliff, overlooking the grand beauty of the Puget Sound?

Or are they the kind that prefers climbing a steep side of a mountain, like Mount Baker, or Rainier?

Maybe those feet of yours prefer to seek the greens of all shades by the side of a humming, crystalline river. Up a little, down some more...Turn and turn, until you see one small cascade to your right.

There is a little tri-petaled ivory jewel graced with perfect green fresh leaves around it. And ferns that curl, grow, hide, extend, and crawl, with magic and charm only the story-tellers have described in our childhood. A song of green!

Another cascade -now down and left to you, for your eyes and ears to treasure -while your skin and your nostrils perceive the fine breeze emanating from it...

And way up high, on the other side of the Quilcene River - below the gracious old wooden bridge cricking under your feet, at the lower side of your hike- the high, high mountain walls, inhabited by tall pine trees and Firs, always reaching up for the sky.

Might your feet be pleased with a sunny hike down, through more singing mysterious woods, waiting to tell you about the beauty you've never seen, and will never see quite like this elsewhere?

And you walk all the way down to the resting viewing wooden deck; complete with welcoming benches, and a telescope, to welcome your curiosity.

After a refreshing moment of rest and views, you keep your way down towards the beach and the long Dungeness Spit...

Maybe your eyes follow it first.

Barely, it seems an inch or two above the Puget Sound, extending its full 6 miles. There is an incomparable walk between waters, to its high-light: The light house in the end!

Then, after this memorable hike or two, your adventurous feet will be happy, and make their way back in the City of Dreams; also known as Port Townsend. They will walk you into The Up Stage bistro, or the Sirens pub for some fun dance, excellent live music and delicious food!

Who, knows, in Port Townsend, your happy feet might even convince you they have found the perfect pair of shoes they can't live without!

Most possibly you'll find that in Port Townsend, we love to pamper you spoiled!
