We all want to impress people and have quality relationships in our lives. However, the ways of doing this that are the most accessible are often not the most effective. Among them is trying hard, too hard to impress people.

If you are a try-hard at getting people to notice you and to like you, there are a few things you need to realize. The most important one is that people can see right through it. When you’re trying hard to impress someone, they typically realize this in just a few minutes and they know their approval is critical to you.

This is not good because, frankly, nobody want to be friends with a person that needs their approval that much. A person that is obviously trying hard to impress others will usually seem very needy and insecure; and these traits are quite off-putting.

It gets worse: consider that some people like to manipulate others and use them. Well, when such individuals realize that you need their approval, they are prone to using that against you. They use your need as a tool to get you to do what they want. This is how you end up an emotional slave to other people.

On top off all this, as any person who tries too much to impress people can testify, this creates a way of interacting with others that’s absolutely exhausting. You’re always trying to figure out what others like and how to show them that you have it. After a while doing this, all you want is to isolate yourself and avoid all social contact.

The real key to impressing people is committing yourself to improving your people skills. While doing this, also keep in mind that in real life, you’ll never be able to please all the people around you. Be OK with this and enjoy your social life.
