If you own a block of apartments, or rent out a building, having CCTV cameras is essential in the monitoring and upkeep of your residents and buildings. Whilst you yourself may not be residing there, you will still need peace of mind that your buildings and tenants are safe, and should any break-ins occur, you have CCTV footage of this.

Key areas that CCTV systems should be installed are:

- Communal areas – if you have communal parking areas/garages, laundry rooms, rubbish bins and so on, you should install CCTV cameras here to ensure not only are your tenants safe in these areas but also that no misuse of your property is occurring.

- Entrances – again, for the wellbeing of your tenants, and peace of mind that if someone did illicitly enter the building you have them caught on CCTV. Having this footage is essential when trying to prosecute someone for break-ins, thefts and so on.

- Office areas – if your apartments have an area where a guard is situated, your tenants come to pay their rent and so on, then CCTV is necessary here to monitor your tenants and employees.

- Hallways/Stairways – if your apartment block is particularly large then you may need extra surveillance in the corridors and stairways. That way, if anyone breaks into a particular apartment or should anything happen to one of your tenants, you know exactly where and when this happened. Because even though you may have the entrance monitored for people unlawfully entering, this doesn’t provide evidence as to when and where things such as break-ins have occurred.

CCTV systems are a proven deterrent against crime, and are a fantastic investment for anyone with property they wish to protect. The beauty of CCTV cameras is that they can be accessed anywhere and monitored as much or as little as you desire. If you have a guard within your apartments, they could be responsible for monitoring the CCTV. Equally, you could access your CCTV for your apartments from your own home at any point during the day.
