Anger, according to Wikipedia, is an emotion related to one's psychological interpretation of having been offended, wronged or denied and a tendency to undo that by retaliation. As human beings, it is normal to feel angry at times but it’s also important that we learn how to control the strong feeling of anger. There are helpful ways on how we can do it so we can preserve our healthy relationship with other people and for us not to be judged negatively by them. Here are some healthy ways on how to do control anger.

Express what you feel to someone close to you. These can include your family members, co-workers or close friends. By this method, your anger will eventually subside as you express what you feel at the moment. Through this, you will be able to listen to their advice and not easily jump in to your current outburst of emotion. This will avoid conflict and worsening of the issue.

Go for a short walk or exercise. This will enable you to think and have more control of your breathing. You can choose whether to go alone or bring someone along. This will keep your mind busy and bring your focus away from your anger. Also, as you breathe in and out, you will start to calm down and you will feel relaxed. Your mind will be preoccupied with what you see and you will start to realize that you are beginning to get back to your normal state of emotion.
Write what you feel. If you can’t express your anger to someone else, writing would be of great help. You can write it down in a blank paper or in a word document of your computer. Continue to write between 5 to 15 minutes simultaneously without editing. You will be surprised that after you wrote it down, you feel you don’t need to show it to someone else anymore because the feeling of anger has subsided.

You can follow one or more of these steps or you can combine them. These will enable your subconscious mind to come to the open and eventually loose the state of anger. Don’t freak out when you feel angry. Take time to think and relax because the worst decisions are usually made when we are angry, frustrated or depressed. Always remember that we are the captain of our ship. We are in control of what we think and feel. So don’t let anger get on your way. Enjoy life and learn how to have a positive outlook always.
