An Unabridged Audio Book--Listen And Enjoy - By: Sandra Tiffany

When a person buys a book, he wants to make sure it is as complete as possible. Audio books change the medium through which the book gets delivered. Through the simple expedient of recording the book, a person can listen to the text rather than read it. The text to speech functionality is what makes recorded books ideal for long trips.

However, in changing from a text to speech medium, there is an economic temptation to reduce the length of the books. That's because whoever reads the books onto tape has to be paid and occasionally given credit for their work. And depending on the arrangements made, he or she may also be entitled to royalties. However, sales usually, rather than the work done, generally determines how much the person reading the book will earn. Sometimes authors will read their own works or celebrities of note will do so. If the reading is done by the authors themselves, there is a considerably greater chance of getting an unabridged version.

Barnes and Noble, Borders and other well known book stores can help a person get unabridged audio works, but they are by no means the only source in this advanced digital age. Amazon.com, for instance, sells them, and Apple's iTunes has also been known to make tracks of such books available from time to time.

If a person does not want to purchase one of these books, but just wants to listen to it, many local and college libraries provide electronic books and such books for their patrons. And if a patron does not want to pay for a permanent copy of an audio version of a book, he can get a temporary copy from a library website, which will then delete itself from his computer after an appropriate time is up.

Unabridged audio books, in addition to providing great entertainment for those seeking to occupy themselves on a long trip, are a tremendous blessing for another entire category of people-- those who are blind, or have greatly diminished sight. Rather than read a book in Braille, they can listen to such a book in a relaxed atmosphere and enjoy without great concentration.

For the lengthy traveler unabridged audio books are a wonderful way making a long trip less boring. And for the blind person or one who has diminished sight, these books are a tremendous way to keep in contact with the latest in the worlds of fiction or non fiction.
