An Individual’s Distinct Qualification - By: Joshua Green

Professional certification or qualification is a designation earned by a qualified person to perform a job or task. Many certifications are used as post-nominal letters that indicate the position, educational degree, accreditation, office, or honor of an individual. An example is a Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire whose post-nominal letters are KBE.

An individual earns a certification from a professional society or an IT vendor. It is not earned from the government. The certification must be renewed periodically or can only be valid for a specific period of time. When an individual renews his or her certification, proof of continued learning must be presented.

There are certifications programs that are sponsored or created by professional associations, trade organizations or IT vendors that have high standards. These programs are a response to the changing employment market. They do not depend on a company’s definition of a certain job. Certification is rather an endorsement of an individual’s knowledge and experience.

An iso certification 9001 is common in many different fields: aviation, construction, technology, environment, health care, business, and finance. In the health care industry, there is an organization that assists certification bodies by providing information on the latest trends and issues of concerns to medical professionals and organizations that are concerned with earning certifications, obtaining licenses, and increasing human resource development.

There are three types of certifications you can earn upon iso registration. Corporate certifications are given by a corporation for internal purposes. For instance, a corporation requires all sales personnel receive a one-day training course. Product-specific certifications are given in the IT industry where personnel are certified on a version of software or hardware. Profession-wide certifications are earned in a certain kind of field that meets professional standards. For instance, certifications in the medical profession are given by particular specialties.

An iso certification 9001 is different from a licensure. A licensure is earned by demonstrating an ability or knowledge by law in order to be qualified for a job or task. It gives the individual permission to practice a certain kind of profession. Unlike certification, licensing is rather a convenient method of regulation. It allows the government to regulate an activity that is deemed dangerous to the individual or public. It requires you have the specialized or needed skills to perform the activity.
