Aluminium in the Packaging Industry - By: diyaj

Aluminium is a highly malleable, durable and strong metal, which has several uses. One of its main uses however is in the packaging industry.

Why is aluminium used in the packaging industry?

Aluminium has the property of being highly resistant to external weather forces. Even when stretched out to its thinnest form, it is able to keep in odours and smells without falling prey to external changes. Aluminium is great in keeping food fresh and is thus, is prominently used in the packaging industry.

Furthermore, aluminium is such a malleable metal that it can be used to fit as closely to any product design while maintaining its characteristics. It has a great strength to weight ratio, which is ideal in transporting goods across long distances without adding more weight. It is also extremely cost effective.

Soda Cans

Aluminium is extensively used in the manufacturing of soda cans. The perfect example of why aluminium is used can be seen in the little can opener that each soda can comes equipped with. The soda can is able to maintain the pressure needed inside to keep the soda aerated and yet, with a little flick to the bottle opener, it can be opened for consumption. This is only possible because of the use of aluminium in it.

Aluminium Wrappers

Any take out is usually found in aluminium wrappers or plastic containers. Plastic containers are bad for the environment and don’t really help in keeping the food hot. They are also very expensive. Instead, the use of aluminium ensures that the food that you receive is hot for atleast half an hour and also that all the flavours remain the same during transport. Aluminium is also recyclable and so, it is safe for the environment.
