Alkaline water has recently gained a great deal of popularity among the population. Anyone who has used it endorses the use of alkaline water and claims to be more energetic and healthy. What makes alkaline water so healthy is negative Oxidation Reduction Potential (ORP) also known as Redox Potential.

A rusting automobile and a freshly cut fruit turning brown are both examples of oxidation. Burning is an example of rapid oxidation. Oxidation is the process where one element loses its electron to another element. The element which has lost an electron is said to be “oxidized” and the one which has gained it is “reduced”. By getting an extra electron the “reduced” element then loses its tendency to attract more electrons thus it has negative
Oxidation Reduction Potential or ORP.

The ORP of any atom, whether to lose or gain electrons is essential. If you continue drinking water which has high positive ORP, the water is likely to steal electrons from other atoms in your body hence oxidizing those other atoms. And just like the rusting of metal or the spoiling of fruit, the oxidizing atoms in your body are harmful. Other drinks with a high positive ORP are coffee, bottled water, soda and almost every other drink found at stores. Even tap water has a positive Oxidation Reduction Potential even though the law requires a neutral level of pH7.

On the other hand, if you continue to drink water with a high negative ORP, the water will let the electrons of the atoms (that you need in your body) remain. Essentially it will reduce (give) electrons to the atoms that would otherwise have oxidized your body. Atoms that oxidize in our body are destructive and cause decay. The only water that has a high negative ORP is alkaline water which is mostly produced by a Water Ionizer. Alkaline water has characteristics that effectively undo the effects of the oxidizing drinks and food we unknowingly consume day by day.

There is another term known as Anti-oxidant which literally means “against oxidation”. An antioxidant is any element that has a high negative ORP or Oxidation Reduction Potential. Anti- Oxidants have a mass demand in the market because they keep our body from oxidizing and decomposing. Alkaline water is probably the best Anti-oxidant available.

Since 70% of our body weight is made up of water it is crucial to know which type of water is best for our health. Ionized alkaline water works as a natural anti oxidant. Being an anti-oxidant and having a high negative Oxidation Reduction Potential, Ionized water helps produce hydroxyl ions which in return help with the production of oxygen in the body, neutralization of free radicals that are otherwise harmful, boosting the energy level and maintaining a healthy alkaline/acid balance. Ionized water hydrates cells in the body and is said to slow down the symptoms of aging.

Alkaline water is an antacid. It acts as an agent that counteracts and neutralizes acidity in the body that could cause sickness or chronic diseases. It particularly helps with acidity in the stomach, heartburn and acid reflux.
Every year billions of dollars are spent on bottled water worldwide even though it is a hundred times more acidic than regular tap water. All the essential alkalizing minerals have been taken out of the bottled water which leaves it acidic. According to an independent testing of 103 brands of water in the United States, about one third of the tested water contained significant levels of chemical and bacterial contaminants.

Ionized water has superior hydrating qualities. It has 6 times more hydrating capacity than normal water. Ionized water isn’t like the water stored in a bottle or dam. It is water that has a unique crystal structure that makes it easy to enter your cells. Like natural spring water, constantly moving, ionized water is free from any chemicals.

Alkaline water is the best water available to us.
