Keep reading this article to find out what makes this place so spectacular and what you can expect to see when you are there.

The Petroglyph National Monument is a 17 mile long canyon that was once a lava flow and this area was also once a hunting and gathering location for Native Americans in the prehistoric era. They told and recorded their story on the walls and boulders in the region. There are over 25000 different petroglyphs which tell their story and make for interesting reading. When you get to the monument you have many choices on how to take in the petroglyphs. In the summer months you can take a tour led by a park ranger who will give you additional insight into the people who created these drawings. If you would like to explore yourself you can take a hike on one of the many trails in the area. The Boca Negra trail for example offers a quick yet steep climb which will give you an incredible view of the mountains and take you past many different petroglyphs. The park is fully equipped with restrooms, water and picnic areas so it is very accommodating. Camping however is not permitted.

If you would like to visit the park you can find it at 6001 Unser Blvd Northwest in Albuquerque. The park is open daily but for current hours you need to call the information line at 505-899-0205. Admission is reasonably priced at $1 on weekdays and $2 on weekends so it is an affordable and fun attraction that every history lover should visit.
