Air Conditioners: How They Work - By: Art Gib

Some of us would never make through the summer without the comfort of our air conditioners. Not only do they keep our homes and workplaces cool, they help circulate the stale, hot air out of our homes in order to keep them comfortable. We often take our air conditioners for granted until they break down and we need to call your Phoenix air conditioning repair man in a state of panic. But perhaps if you knew exactly how your air conditioning unit worked, you'd be better equipped to handle your air emergency while you wait for help to arrive.

First, air conditioners use a compressor to compress low pressure refrigerant gas into high pressure, high temperature gas. This compressor can be found on the outdoor part of your air conditioning unit. After the compressor has heated the refrigerant, it then travels to the condenser. The gas flows through the condenser, where a fan blows on the super-hot gas to cool it back down, bringing it back to a liquid state. The cool air that is produced by the fan is what eventually cools your house down. The heat from the process is released outdoors. Finally, a metering device dispenses the liquid across a cooling coil, cooling the gas down even more before it dispenses into your home. And air handler fan unit blows it into your home, using a duct system that was installed along with your air conditioning unit. The duct system carries the cooled air all over your home, wherever the vent system is installed. This is what keeps your home cool and comfortable. Of course, the controls to your air conditioner can be found in your thermostat, where you can adjust as needed to your own preferences.

When an air conditioner stops working, especially in the middle of a hot summer, our first instinct is to panic. But when you understand the inner workings of your unit, you can be confident when calling your Phoenix air conditioning repair professional that not only will your air conditioner be repaired, but that you can understand what went wrong in the first place. They'll correct the problem and you'll know how to prevent or even how to fix it in the future.

Make sure to maintain your air conditioner through yearly checkups and evaluations through a trusted air conditioning repair professional. They'll help you keep your air conditioner running smooth, and head off that air conditioner repair even before it happens.
