Today in America, many more of its population is in need of affordable health care. A number of employers have reduced their health care benefits because accountants are working to tighter budgets and the cost of providing this service has risen. How do I know this, well because I am one of those people affected and despite a very good job, before 2006, the health care package at work was first rate. Just before Christmas, the company announced some changes including the replacement of our, now to expensive, health care supplier.

To make the system fair to everyone, the health care provider would need to change. Although I am just as well looked after with this new policy, I am not entirely convinced. I don not mind other workers benefiting but it costs me more now, almost twice as much more to have my family covered in the plan. Without a pay increase, my paychecks are now much smaller just so that my family can have cover.

I suppose my health care plan is still good but this new company is not as good as the old one. It is all very well making the excuse that you are searching for a more affordable health care alternative but it does not wash when you see reducing your income but also out of pocket expenses also. I am sure of this because just over 2 years ago when I had my little boy, the stay in hospital was completely covered by my insurance policy. Today, if I had a baby, it would cost me around four thousand dollars for my expenses.

You also have to bear in mind that this additional expense is just the hospital bill and doesn't include the additional work fees I must now pay. Fortunately, more affordable health care scheme are being started to help those less fortunate. For workers in companies without health care plans and single mums for instance, this is a God send. Although these programs are a good idea for those less fortunate there are always people who want to abuse the system.

Those less well off are in need of these affordable health care schemes but they are also used by those who are intent on living of the state and do not actually contribute to society. We often forget who is ultimately paying for these schemes; us, the taxpayer. It is true to say that my employer is very happy because he found distinct benefits to finding a different health plan program. Less take home pay was the result of my companys health provider switch with many of its workforce the ones seeing less money to take home for their families. Something needs to be done in this country to offset rising costs and provide more affordable health care to those who are in need.
