Adding an elegant gazebo or a beautiful pergola in your home or garden is an exciting vista. If you’re the one who is planning to include pergolas and gazebos in your home garden, it will definitely enhance the looks of your garden and give it an amazing look, even it increases the marketability of your home as well.

Gazebos and pergolas provide opportunity to use the climbing plants as they support them properly to grow well and also beautify the surroundings with raised colorful foliage and flowers. Different materials are used to made pergolas and gazebos, such as timber and metal. These materials are also used to support pergolas as well.

Gazebos

The most remote corner or part of the garden is normally used to build a gazebo. In past gazebos were meant to be used in large gardens as a place to sit and enjoy the distant prospects and other parts of the countryside. Generally, gazebo is a place to enjoy the evening or afternoon sunshine. In many occasions, gazebo is raised to certain height to create an impact of seclusion or independence. It can be hexagonal, octagonal or even round with a paved flooring. The roof of the gazebo is usually made higher than usual, i.e. 2.1 m (7 feet) high or even higher, as they have to support the climbing plants.

There is no adequate reason that you don’t include gazebo in your small garden. Using gazebo in small garden is of equal importance as in large gardens. You can pose it in the small garden to have a magnificent, distant view.

Pergolas

If you are plant lover and have a garden in your home, then you must be aware of this term. Pergolas basically are a series of horizontal timbers or wooden beams, which are supported by brick, stone pillar, or timber over a paved floor or grass. These are just more than a self contained structure, and appeared to be as a tunnel for climbers. Although, the sides of the pergolas are normally open, the stone pillars and brick sometimes caused it to appear as an enclosed structure. Pergolas are designed in such a way that it leads from one area or feature to another. The first and foremost thing before adding a pergola in your garden is to measure its width and height, and also the proper thickness for the pillars or timber or whatever the material you chose for the pillars. The common material used to build pergolas include: pressure treated softwood or hardwood and metal (that must be treated with some rust proofing agent). You can also use non ferrous metals to prevent rust problem.

Pergolas are not limited to gardens or lawns; you can also use pergolas over your patio to reinforce seclusion or some shade. The good way is to cover your pergola with some fragrant climbers. You can give your patio pergola an ornamental effect by adding some hanging baskets, or some colorful lighting features.
