Add a Touch of Elegance to Your Bamboo Shades with These Ideas - By: Allan Michael Taylor

Now that you have finally decided to go the green and ecologically friendly way of decorating by shading your windows with the use of bamboo shades, you now want to try and create an chic ambiance in your home even with the presence of these rather rustic window shades you have. There are ways you can inject some style to your home despite the rather earthy and laid-back appeal of these bamboo and reed shades you are now using. Here are some ideas you might want to try.

For a more elegant appeal inside your home despite the native and eco-friendly feel of your bamboo shades, you can hang some stylish drapes over them. Tie these to the side for people to see the contrast between your window shades and your drapes. You can also let these hang from each side only, leaving the middle part of your shades exposed for people to see.

If you want to disguise your bamboo shades before you do hang your drapes over them or use drapes to accentuate them, you may want to spray paint your window shades with a neutral color like beige, off-white or white. You can even decide on a contrasting color for your shades to help set off the beauty of your drapes. You may even have your shades painted in the same color scheme as the area you are putting it in. For example, if you are putting your shades in the living room and the colors you are using there are different shades of green, you can choose to paint your shades a lighter shade of this green and use darker colored drapes over it. You can also reverse this by painting your shades a darker green and using light green drapes to complete your window treatment.

Another technique you might want to try when you want to add some elegance to your native looking bamboo shades is to use lace curtains over them. You don't need to paint over your window shades with a window treatment like this since lace has always been considered a rather elegant type of fabric. You also don't need to tie these to the side to show off your lovely and rustic shades since these types of cloth are sheer and can be easily seen through. If you don't like lace, there are other sheer fabric types you can choose for your elegant window treatment and all you need to do is find the right kind of sheer fabric you want to use.

Heavy valances and pleated cloth edges are also good ways to help create that touch of elegance you want for your bamboo shades. Ruffled valances, lacy valances, printed floral drapes and other similar window treatments can all be used to help give your bamboo and reed shades that stylish look you want. You can find many different kinds of curtain treatments that can be used with your simple window shades and all you have to do is to use your imagination, learn how to innovate and let your own sense of style take over.
