Acupuncture Migraines – An Easy Treatment - By: Agatha G.

Acupuncture is another alternative form of treatment for people who suffer from acupuncture migraine. Many migraine sufferers turn over to this kind of medication because they are not satisfied with some medications they have already taken, like most of them did not contribute in treating the migraine at all. But for treating migraines, it depends on the person if he will ask for acupuncture treatment or this treatment will find him. The long-term goal here that should be set by the sufferer is the prevention, as this is the only way for him to avoid migraines and to prevent them from coming back.

Acupuncture is a medical technique that involves careful inserting and manipulating of needles on the skin at particular points in the body, called the acupoints. This medical procedure is believed to have originated in China, but its origins and early usage is still a great mystery until today. In the present time, acupuncture has been widely used in many countries around the world for treating acupuncture migraine and certain health problems experienced by man and animals. The general theory formulated on this kind of medical treatment is based on the idea that there are patterns of energy flow inside the body. This is known as the Qi. These patterns of energy are considered to be essential and vital for life. And if there any obstructions that happened in the energy flow, it can cause illnesses or even death. These patterns have stimulated points in many parts of the body. And there are different acupuncture techniques that correspond to these points. There are also many approaches to this kind of medication, but the most popular is the use of fine metal needles that are being penetrated on the skin.

Migraine, according to the traditional Chinese medicine, is the result of a disturbance on the pathway of energy in the head. So to improve the energy flow as well as the blood circulation in the brain, acupuncture must treat the root cause of the problem. Once this has been done, the pain being felt due to migraine is reduced. But acupuncture is not effective after all for acupuncture migraine. Many studies have given mixed conclusions. But one study has results showing a similarity of using acupuncture and taking feverfew – acupuncture helps in balancing the serotonin levels in the body, while feverfew produces serotonin that prevents blood vessels spasm. In short, the serotonin is an essential substance that effectively treats migraine, and these can be worked out with sessions of acupuncture. The repetitive needling helps in making serotonin to perform well inside the head in order to reduce pain brought by the migraine. Also, acupuncture is believed to discharge endorphins. These are endogenous opioid substances that function as neurotransmitters same as the serotonin, and these both work as the body’s pain killers. Endorphins can also relieve stress and relaxes tense muscles that may help avert the beginning of migraine.

When you have tried many medications and still, your migraines has not been treated, choosing acupuncture can be the last and best option for you to treat that painful feeling in the head. When having an acupuncturist to do the treatment, make sure he is certified, licensed and professional. Clear everything with him so you can have an assurance that acupuncture can treat your migraines. The more you define the acupuncture migraine to your acupuncturist, the better he will understand your condition, and soon enough he will show you that acupuncture is the best treatment for your migraines.
