Active UK holidays helping us get fit this summer - By: Lee Lazarus

We as a nation have been called to action; to get active and get in shape. There have been countless television shows exposing the shocking eating habits and lack of exercise that the British public engage in and has clearly made getting fit and healthy something that many people are interested in.

This has spilled over into many aspects of our lives, one of which is our choice of holidays. Many people are choosing holidays where they can engage in some form of exercise or activity that can help them stay active when on holiday. Typically many of us will spend our entire holiday lounging in the sun by the sea; the most exercise we’d indulge in is a quick dip in the pool to cool off.

There are however, many holidays in this country that can provide an active experience which a lot of holiday makers may have overlooked in the past. Holiday parks are all over the country, mostly at family friendly beach resorts like Blackpool or Skegness and should we get decent weather like we’ve had over the past few years then holidays in the UK can rival typical destinations like Spain and Greece.

There are so many activities and sports available in the UK whether it’s just a weekend break or a full fortnight holiday you will easily find something that you enjoy doing or even better, discover a new activity that could become a regular hobby. There are plenty of these activities that are strenuous enough to be counted as a decent session of exercise.

Sports like football or basketball are popular in the UK as well as various activities like swimming and bike riding. Engaging in these activities whilst away may have more appeal when you’re able to do them as a family with pleasant surroundings as opposed to city life and the smog!

It’s not just the ability to do these activities that is drawing in the crowds this year but also the agreeable price, holiday parks are all inclusive with all activities and entertainment being free of charge. With the current financial situation making families pay more attention to what they actually get for their money it’s no surprise that the British public are looking closer to home for their holidays.

This by no stretch of the imagination means that they will have to compromise on their holidays as the sheer amount of things to do means that UK family holiday parks are set to become the top choice for many tourists this year.
