Accommodation near the Sabarimala Temple - By: soni sajjan

Sabarimala, as legend has it, is the place where Lord Ayyappa came to meditate after killing the she-devil Mahishi. It is one of the few temples in India that allows unrestricted entry to people of all castes and creed. Surrounded with dense forests and reached only by trekking up a steep hill, it is still the most visited pilgrim centre in the world.

You can find from the Sabarimala map that there are many Sabarimala hotels around the temple town that cater to the millions of pilgrims visiting the holy shrine. As the administration of the Sri Dharma Sastha Temple does not allow any hotels on the holy hills, one of the nearest hotels is the Aranya Nivas hotel run by the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation.

Hotel Aranya Nivas

Located in the district of Idukki near Kumily, Hotel Arya Nivas provides all modern conveniences at reasonable rates. Located very close to the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, the hotel is also quite close to the temple, which is about 12 kilometers away.

• Accommodation: The rooms offered are classified into Deluxe rooms and Premium rooms. All the rooms are lavishly appointed with attached baths and are elegantly furnished. Even though the hotel enjoys an ideal climate throughout the year, all the rooms are air-conditioned to help fight the heat and the humidity of Kerala.

• Food: There is a multi-cuisine restaurant that takes care of the guests’ needs by serving up delicious local delicacies to the pilgrims.

• Amenities: Air-conditioned rooms are available to keep the rooms cool even in the hot and humid afternoons. A multi-cuisine restaurant, an outdoor swimming pool, money changers, and a travel desk are some of the amenities that the guests can enjoy, apart from the usual ones like attached baths and 24-hour running hot or cold water.

• Services: Room service, laundry services, valet services, car rentals and complimentary breakfast are some of the extra services provided by the hotel. The hotel can also arrange for safaris, treks and nature walks and Ayurvedic massages and treatments if the guest needs them.

So, once you have completed your pilgrimage to Sabarimala, you can take the time to relax and enjoy the beauty of the surrounding hills and its various attractions. There are many other temples in the surrounding hills of Sabarimala and plenty of places to spot wildlife in or to just soak in nature’s bounty in God’s Own Country!
