On a daily basis we climb into our cars, strap ourselves in, and go speeding down the Lincoln highway or the Pennsylvania turnpike at sixty five miles an hour. We are on the road with thousands of other people, all strapped into their cars.

We change lanes, speed up, slow down, slam on our breaks, and try to drive a straight course while watching everything that goes on around us. Sounds like a recipe for disaster doesn't it? First things first... plan ahead. You will want to keep any insurance information with you in the jockey box of the car. This is just a general rule of thumb. You never know when something will happen and you need to be prepared if it does. Having a disposable camera and a sheet of paper handy is a good idea as well. Whatever you do when the accident occurs do not leave the scene. You will be charged with a hit and run. If it's possible, move your car off the road. If you can't do this than at least turn on your hazard lights so people know to go around you.

Exchange information with the driver of the other car. You will need his name, his insurance information, his driver's license information, and his address, and he will need yours. This will help you get the necessary compensation from his insurance if he was at fault, or help him get what he needs if you were at fault. When all is said and done you will want to report the accident to your insurance company.
