About The Swing Weight Of A Golf Club. - By: lavmljl

The characteristics of your club swing is influenced, to a large degree, by the swing weight of a golf club. It may be that you have, in fact, been using clubs belonging to other players and have been adjusting your swing to the weight of the club, it really should be the other way around. Before buying a golf club you should know the weight required for your level of play and the object of this article is to give you some pointers of how to determine a golf club's weight.

There are a number of ways in which you can achieve this, employing a formula involving a trade-off between swing speed and momentum. With a light club, for example, you will be able to swing it faster but with less momentum and conversely a heavier club will have a slower swing speed but have more momentum.

During training sessions, professional golfers, often attach weights, in order to strengthen the muscle groups used when swinging a club, a bit like going to the gym but a little more subtle and targeted. When a beginner starts to play golf they very often ache in places where they didn't even know they had muscles. Once these muscles build and strengthen, the swing movement will become stronger and feel more instinctive.

A large factor in determining the required swing weight of a club is your swing speed. If, for example you have a fast swing then choosing a lighter club will allow your speed to convert to force when you impact the ball, however, if you have a slower swing, having a heavier club will add momentum. Initially, when using a club with additional weight, a player may find that they overshoot, so it may take a few practice strokes to modify their swing to compensate but once this adjustment has been made it will be found that the weight is most beneficial. You should always be able to try out a club before purchasing so that you know, for sure, that it suits.

If you are at a loss as to how best determine your swing weight then I strongly recommend asking at your club or at your local golf store. There are also many discussion forums on the Internet where you can chat to and compare notes with other golfers. I cannot stress enough the importance of getting your swing weight correct for your swing style. Getting it wrong can completely throw out your game.

You must not rush in to buying a golf club as it will require a lot of trial and research and it is likely to cost too, however, fore warned is fore armed, as they say. With the information contained in this article you, at least, know how important it is to make the correct choice of club weight based on your style of swing and level of play.
