About Security Systems - By: Richard K Paul

Security systems are a necessity at workplace and commercial ventures like hotels, office spaces, hospitals, retail venues, etc. As there are many valuable items present and also there are thousands of personnel working everyday that need security which will give them their peace of mind.

Why Should I Have a Security Alarm System?

There are many arguments both for and against security alarm systems and whether they actually reduce the chances and occurrence of burglary. It is true that if a burglar believes that a house is set up with a security system then the chances are that they will move on. And if they don’t then at least it ensures that they remain for a very less time within the property and cause less damage by stealing less.

What Should a Security Alarm System Include?

Every security system varies, but let’s take a look at some basic specifications. Most of the systems rely on a combination of contacts that are places on doors, windows and motion sensors. Motion sensors though sometimes have a downside as they don’t detect someone until they are already in the house and so it is advisable that motion sensors are not used as a primary way of detection. It is advisable that you have all exterior points of entry, existing or potential installed with contacts. Also glass break sensors are available and are recommended. You could contact ADS Security Systems for a security alarm system.

Some basic elements:

Control Panel:

This where the systems wiring terminates, the backup battery is located and this is also the location where it is connected to the phone lines if it is a monitored system.

Keypad:

This is the location where the system is armed and disarmed. You can have some additional keys installed, for example you can install a key next to your bed or as spy movies suggest, under your office table. Some security systems are made in such a way that if the security system is sounded in the night then the system can show you which door, window or motion detector it was that was tripped.

Siren:

One of the best ways to scare the intruder and let you know that there is someone who is breaking in is the loud siren. It also lets your neighbours know that there is a problem and so they can call for help as well.

Door and window contacts:

Contacts are magnets that form a circuit between the door and the doorframe and the window and the window sill. When the door or window is opened the alarm on the circuit is broken and the alarm sounds.

Inside Motion Detectors:

You can have inside motion detectors like microwaves, photoelectric detectors or passive infrared which can detect human presence in a room. There are special motion detectors for owners who have pets.

Central Monitoring Station:

This is at the security company station and if the alarm is monitored then in an event of a break in the control panel sends a message over the telephone line to the central monitoring station which is manned 24/7. After contacting the home owner the control panel sends messages to the police station, fire department or the medics. For more details visit our website http://www.ads.org.au.
