AR Invaders iPhone Game Review - By: Sidney Glennon

There are two basic type of gameplay available which is the 360 and 180 degree modes. In AR Invaders 360 mode you rotate the camera to find enemies, you will need some elbow space in this mode as it requires you to move your body. I find the 360 mode a little bit exhausting to play, but I did have a lot of fun. However, the 360 mode isn't really the type of game that you'd like to play when you want to relax. In 180 degree mode all enemies are within the 180 degree range.

You have to search for the enemies coming at you which is kind of a pain since it's very hard to tell where they're coming from. There is no radar but there's a method to tell how many enemies are there.

Once you've chosen between 360 and 180 degree you will have to choose from one of the story modes which are Hold M' Up, Invasion or multiplayer. The multiplayer mode allows you to play with your buddy over bluetooth to fight against enemy ships.

There are different varieties of space alien ships that you'll encounter, most of which becomes stronger and faster. They'll try to bomb you to death so you really have to shoot them down as quickly as you can
There are two main buttons which are the absorb (left) and attack (right) buttons. You can absorb a white looking pill substance to regenerate energy and some orange stuff to bomb your enemies and a green looking pill which allows you to fire a gravity shot and pulls all your enemy on where you shot.

While this is not the first Augmented Reality game we've seen (this has been done in mobile games before), this is the first one to adapt the concept of classic Space Invaders gameplay into Augmented Reality type of game. We somehow wish it followed the pattern of having grouped enemies though...
It's definitely not a very nice experience playing the game while laying on the bed, the iPhone 4g camera gets in the way. The game is perhaps better played outdoors where you can get a good view of the clouds because the ships take depth and it doesn't feel much like the ships are part of reality when played indoors.

The enemy ships are smart enough to challenge any player. However they seem to move too fast when you're trying to AR 拡張現実 them. This is a rather odd behavior... Like, they always know that they're being AR 拡張現実 and that's very frustrating.
