A guide to choosing workbenches. - By: Gen Federico

So all that nagging has paid dividends. You are going to change and do more diy around the house. Are you sure that's such a good idea? Remember those wonky shelves? That was a long time ago I suppose. So it's time to give it all another go. To be Mr Practical and help out more with jobs at home.

Where to start? Well any aspiring handyman is going to check out work benches and find the right one for his needs. Workbenches come in all sorts of designs and styles. If you are just getting back into diy then don't get too carried away. Why spend a huge amount of money on top spec work benches if you aren't even sure you will carry on with your diy and get really into it. No, you are better off getting a nice solid entry level model. If it becomes a real hobby, then you can always upgrade if you need to.

If you are going to do a job properly, then workbenches are absolutely essential. You need to be able to sit and work properly with all your materials and tools properly organised. How much space do you have? Before you buy, decide where you are going to work and measure up. No point in getting something so big that it doesn't fit into the garage or the shed.

What features do you need? Some benches just have surfaces to work off. More expensive ones come with things like built in storage. What you need will most likely depend on your level of experience and the type of jobs are you going to tackle.

Instead of going to the local diy superstore, you might want to buy your bench online. You can get great deals shopping this way. Plus you don't have to lug the whole thing home. Instead it's delivered direct to your door.
