A child’s introduction to skating - By: Ronald Kresten

Skating of all types is a healthy activity for children of all ages to participate in. With many children sat in front of computers and electronic games all day, skating can provide some welcome exercise and fresh air for children. There are no firm rules or guidelines for the age that a child should be introduced to skating but it should be after the child can walk and run proficiently without falling.

The most suitable kids skates are quad skates or roller skates as with four wheels, two at the front and two at the back, your child will have greater stability. Before their first trial skating session it is important to purchase protective gear, especially the helmet to prevent any serious injury to the head as well as elbow and knee pads as these are vulnerable areas to injury. Like with a push bike, you should be close to hand at first.

Buying kids skates can be a lengthy task as there are so many styles to choose from but it is imperative that you purchase your kids skates from a reputable shop where you will receive advice on all aspects of skating. Here at Skates.co.uk we are very happy to give advice regarding the skates as well as accessories such as protective wear and style accessories that kids love.

When your child has their first skating lesson you may want to let them hold your hand for support, especially if they are very young until they are confident. A child that is older may gain confidence a little faster but with the right protection they will be fine even after a fall. If your child takes to skating you will be able to buy kids skates for Christmas and birthday presents which will make your life much easier.
