The concept of a Japanese minimalist aesthetic may be ultra contemporary, but sleeping on a fairly thin cotton mattress on the floor is not much fun. The mattress retracts up (much like foam fold available mattresses) on to a metal base, so they almost look like sofas. Definitely not a good idea as a primary sofa, but Futons can be handy in the sacrifice room.

There is virtually no separate mattress, although most of the better models have a sprung base, & the area created is normally about the length of a small double bed, so a couple smaller people might share.

These take not so room when create than many many other sofabeds & range from inexpensive to really pricey - but are not really comfortable enough for more than a night or several. Great for a study, for occasional people & for students/young people, some of the more 'designer' versions from Italy can be part of ones d?? cor, rather then hidden away out of sight.

: Single sofa bedrooms. Also known as daybeds, these get arms & backs in fabric or wood, with a single mattress & cushions relating to the back & aspects. Often used being a decorative item (they are often beautifully designed) the mattress can be a standard single bed mattress, so are really comfortable to sleep on, even though they can be only a single bed.

Please note, this review will not discuss the different types of mattress material and padding, today we are merely going to tackle points relating to the length of the mattress. This review also assumes that folks looking to use the bed are normal size and weight, and do not require any special sleeping arrangements.

I believe the queen size mattress could be the most versatile mattress size for a number of reasons.

For starters, if you spend most nights sleeping on your own, it provides a size of bed that gives you lots with space and comfort, whilst not taking up as much physical space for a king or emperor size mattress.
