A Review of the Yamaha C40 Guitar, It's a Classic - By: Webmann

Getting that first acoustic guitar can make your head spin but your worth the time it takes to find the best one for you. There are so many guitars on the market, and so many factors to consider.

What makes the Yamaha C40 guitar so suitable as a starting instrument? In my opinion it's great value for money, and it is fairly durable. It has stood up to a lot of abuse on my part. I have been playing acoustic guitar for just over 10 years and I see the C40 as a classical guitar that plays just great as a regular acoustic guitar.

Specification of the Yamaha C40 Guitar

- manufactured in Indonesia
- the C40 guitar's body is constructed from meranti
- the guitar top is made of spruce
- the C40's neck is constructed from Nato wood

Nato wood is also know as 'eastern mahogany' because it has characteristics of mahogany, such as it's strength, but it is also much more affordable.

- Rosewood is used for both the bridge and fingerboard
- The tuner is made of YTM01 chrome
- Nylon strings are used along with metal wound strings for the lower strings
- String length is 650mm
- there are 19 frets along the fretboard
- has a glossy varnished finish

Sound and Playability

As guitars go the Yamaha C40 is small and light. Other guitars I've looked at usually come with guitar strap buttons, and more frets, but the C40 is classical, so strap buttons are absent.

The C40 sports a great sound due in part to the wood used to makeit. Plus the small body gives it a brighter sound as well.

Younger Players Like The C40 Because It's Lighter and Easy To Hold

The wood used in the C40's construction is very light. This is good in some ways: a light guitar is easier for younger players to support and hold, and to transport.

The fact lighter wood is used makes it a bit easier to scratch or to put dents in it. But then again I call that character adding when it happens to me. The value of your guitar could drop if you ever planned to sell. I won't be selling mine, because I love it.

After owning a guitar that never stayed tuned it's so nice that my C40 stays tuned for so long and it plays so well with light or medium strings. Any heavier than that does take away from the great sound so stick with the lighter strings.

Is The C40 Yamaha Guitar Worth The Purchase?

Let me think about it for a... oh yeah it's definitely worth the price. You may find it tough finding another quality acoustic guitar like the C40 at as good a price.

Even though the C40 acoustic guitar is classified as an entry level guitar and the best woods are not used so that it can be affordable it doesn't distract from the quality sound and performance.
