A Review of Singorama Version 2.0 - By: Bryan Thorsen

Singorama is a well known self-study singing course. It's been around for years and not much can be said about its teaching techniques or its effectiveness that hasn't been said already. But there is something new that I would like to talk about. The Singorama Team has released a second version of their course with a full name Singorama Version 2.0: Your Essential Guide to Singing Like a Professional.

In this short review I will mainly focus on what's new in the second version and discuss the main question you're probably asking yourself, should you upgrade.

Basically the only thing that is new in Singorama v.2.0 are the interactive audio lessons. There are 28 lessons, all of them recorded with Singorama's own professional singers. Here's how it's supposed to work. You listen to the audio lesson, hear the overview of the lesson, get the explanation of the topic, and instructions for practice. Then you sing along with the tape accompanied by a professional singer.

The lessons start off a bit slowly, especially if you already have some singing experiences. The beginning lessons will first help you understand your own voice and give you some warm up exercises and exercises designed to strengthen your voice. You will learn about the correct breathing and posture, and only then start with any real singing.

The further lessons cover tone, pitch, chest and head voice and how to deal with bad habits you might have developed because of a lack of proper vocal training.

Later still, you will really start to sing. These lessons cover topics such as extending your vocal range, singing in different styles or in different music genres, singing in a band and singing in harmony. You will even touch upon topics such as writing your own songs, performing on auditions, and how to deal with performance anxiety.

So, as you can see, the lessons really do cover a lot, but are they any good?

The answer is yes. This really is a great course and is fun to do. Now don't get me wrong. I would still recommend hiring a good music teacher over this course. With a teacher you will have someone to correct all your mistakes right away, before they have a chance to develop into a habit. But as far as a self-study courses go, Singorama v.2.0 is one of the best.

However, if you already own Singorama version 1.0, you won't find much new in this second version. The difference is mainly in the way that lessons are presented. Interactive audio lessons are a good idea and they work, but they are really not a necessity. So if you're thinking about upgrading, you should be aware that you won't receive any new knowledge, but the way of doing the exercises has become easier and more fun.
