A Quick Review of the Different Hypnosis Types - By: Cliff Yvon

The use of hypnosis can be traced long ago to ancient civilization. It is commonly used by shamans for healing purposes during religious ceremonies.
Hypnosis has evolved significantly over the years. Ongoing studies and extensive research have developed different types of hypnosis overtime. This development is mainly based on how a person can be put into a trance using different approaches.

The different types of hypnosis which have been developed include Neuro-linguistic programming, Ericksonian hypnosis, self hypnosis and the traditional method.

Below are an overview and a short description of these diverse forms of hypnosis.

Neuro-linguistic Programming

Neuro-linguistic programming or simply known as NLP, is a technique used to further study a person’s behavioural and thought patterns. It tackles important components that are based from human experiences.

Neuro or neurology mainly regulates on how our mind and body functions as a whole. Linguistic or language entails how we communicate with other people and programming shows how a person interplays with the world.

A certified NLP practitioner analyzes each of these components and creates a list of actions to modify any unwanted pattern their client is experiencing - it could be anywhere between behavior, thoughts or beliefs.

Ericksonian Hypnosis

This type of approach is greatly used by hypnotherapist if their subject’s conscious mind makes it hard for them to tap into the subconscious.
The Ericksonian approach is a creative type of hypnosis which uses “metaphors” or stories that have a valuable and a moral lesson.

These stories and metaphors are recognized and accepted by the conscious mind thus making it easier for the hypnotist to tap into the unconscious mind. Once the subconscious mind is redirected by the metaphors it will process the information and force it to realize the true meaning and moral of the story.

The subconscious will then create a new and positive belief based on the metaphor.

Self Hypnosis

Each and every one of us is hypnotizable. However, you don’t have to always go to a hypnotherapist to be hypnotized. You can put yourself in trance on your own. Self hypnosis is designed for people who would like to modify any of their psychological and behavioural patterns and are either short on time or money or both.

Self hypnosis comes with several benefits. First and foremost is the major cost savings. You can instantly change any limiting belief or unwanted behavior by communicating directly with your subconscious. You can perform hypnosis on yourself whenever you want and so it can be very convenient for those who are always on the go. You also have the power to create your own personal scripts and suggestions for tapping into your subconscious.

Generally speaking, having the ability to communicate with your subconscious at anytime with your own scripts can enable you take full control over your life very inexpensively and hassle free.

Traditional Hypnosis

Traditional hypnosis is used by many hypnotists in order to gain control over their subject’s subconscious mind. They perform hypnosis in an old fashioned way wherein they hypnotize their clients traditionally.

Once the hypnotists are able to tap into their subject’s subconscious, they have the power to give out commands or positive suggestions to adjust their client’s beliefs, negativity and unwanted behaviors.

All of these hypnosis types can be used to put a person into a deep trance. However, everyone is unique and every person has a preferred approach to becoming hypnotized. Trying the different types of hypnosis will help you to decide what would be the best and suitable approach for you.
