The cause of lung cancer has been seen to be the abnormalities in cells. The body of human beings automatically regulates the production and growth of cells when the body needs them. Radon gas: Radon is a naturally occurring gas found in soil. It is said to move from soil, up building foundations, from where inhabitants are then exposed. Exposure to radon gas depends on one's locality in relation to presence of the gas in underlying rocks and soil in the area.

Asbestos: People who have a long contact with asbestos are likely to develop lung cancer especially if they couple it with the smoking of cigarettes. The two combinations are fatal as they increase the chances of developing cancer. Heavy exposure to asbestos lone can also result to lung cancer.

Viruses: Viruses have been known to cause lung cancer in animals. However, recent research shows that they do cause lung cancer in humans. Examples of the most common viruses that cause lung cancer are the human papilloma-virus, JC virus and simian virus among others. These viruses will usually change the normal cell cycle, leading to abnormal and uncontrolled cell division. Viruses are difficult to kill and in a short time will develop into lung cancer.

To prevent lung cancer, people should stop smoking.
