As the Noughties comes to an end and we look back, the past decade has been an amazing time for both technology and internet tv. Its hard to imagine, but a decade ago, there were no smart phones. The iPhone was still a twinkle in Apple’s eye. Myspace was creatyed in 2003, Facebook only came about in 2004, Twitter in 2007. Can you also beleive there was no iTunes?
Ten years ago all television sets sold were the old massive cathode ray tube types and hd broadcasts were at an experimental stage. If you wanted to buy a high definition tv then you could buy a cheap one for around $6000

The Future Is Internet TV
Interestingly, the battle fought over the last ten years between Blu-ray and HD-DVD may have been in vain. Although the format that won out was Blu-ray when the HD-DVD format crashed. It may be too late as streaming media is battling out with the hd disc format now.
Although Blu-ray players are now cheap to buy and plentiful, sales of movies on Blu-ray discs, according to The Wall Street Journal, represented only 11.5% of studios’ in-home video revenue as of September. Blu-ray players are now available for under $130 but it may be too little too late.
More and more, viewers are taking the option to stream movies and TV shows using the Internet and avoiding the need for physical media. Indeed, Netflix — the DVD’s best friend — is a strong proponent of streaming video, offering unlimited access to thousands of titles that can be streamed to computers or TV sets equipped with devices such as the Roku, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and some compatible TiVo models.
The Internet tv websites all started taking off late in the decade, from networks forming their own online presence and the launch of the most famous internet tv website, Hulu. Suddenly viewers could actually watch full length tv shows online. Their impact on viewing has been dramatic over a short period of time. The future looks to become totally dominated by the internet, catch up tv and video on demand. It will seem positively prehistoric to have to buy a disc in order to watch a movie or show. The future is bright, the future is internet tv

The biggest population in the world will be tuning into a new national online tv station next week. China Central Television (CCTV) will launch the new station known as CNTV.cn during the next few days. Industry insiders say the launch of the national Internet television station in China could have ramifications for the worldwide online tv industry.

China Adopts Internet TV
Already in trial are two online video sites, xiyou.cctv.com and bugu.cctv.com from CCTV. Xiyou.cctv.com is a video sharing website. Bugu.cctv.com provides video services including live online broadcasts, video on demand, and catch up tv services.
The National Internet television station is positioned to be a global, multilingual and multi-terminal platform. Based on video and audio interaction, it is characterized by both the Internet and a television station.
Online TV in China has become ever more popular as more viewers choose to view television on the net, youku.com, tudou.com and other video networks quickly became popular. Many television stations also started to join the competition. Apart from CCTV, Shanghai Media and Entertainment Group also launched an Internet television station – smgbb.cn, and Hunan Provincial Broadcasting and Television Bureau rebranded its new media business hunantv.com as tv.hunantv.com.
Industry insiders hold the view that CCTV has removed many obstacles through a series of measures before it launches the national Internet television station. In the recent crackdown on unhealthy content, a large number of websites that provide video downloading services were shut down.
Now i just need to practise on my Chinese to English translation and i’ll be all set.
