A Chemical Face Peel May be the Answer to Those Cursed Wrinkes. - By: Sharon Francis

How we care for our skin in our youth has a huge impact on how we look and the speed that our skin ages. A common curses are damage done by the sun and smoking which can result in premature aging. A chemical face peel may be a treatment you might want to think about, even to help with acne and uneven skin tone. There are many face peel products on the market and the range is ever expanding. Face peel products range from those containing mild AHA acids to a deep chemical peel that can take several weeks to heal. The end result is that the peel reveals new fresher skin and wrinkles and blemishes are diminished meaning a new more youthful look.

Prior to considering a face peel a consultation with the dermatologist or qualified individual should to take place to determine that there will be no lasting adverse side effects. Chemical peels come with varying amounts of risk. Chemical peel is normally a safe procedure when it is performed by a qualified, experienced plastic surgeon...However, some unpredictability and risks such as infection and scarring, while infrequent, are possible.

These are some examples of chemical face peels that are available today:

AHA Peels: AHA's are found in the milder face peel products that occour naturally for example lactic acid. These should be by a qualified dermatologists and require no anaesthetic although one might experience some redness and mild irritation. Weaker peel products containing AHA's can be purchased for home use after a 'patch' test has been done. Patchy skin, fine wrinkles, skin damaged by UV and acne can all be helped with an chemical face peel containing AHA's. The peel may need to be repeted periodically for maximum effectiveness.

Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA): Peels containing TCA's are deemed more suitable for those with pigmented skin who want a stronger peel as it does not bleach the skin and is more suitable for pigmentation problems. It is a more potent peel but an anaesthetic might not be required as the peel has a mild numbing effect on the skin. Contact with the sun is imperative for some months after the peel to prevent damage to the new layers of skin.

The Phenol Chemical Face Peel: Containing croton oil. This face peel product acts deeper and must be applied by a qualified cosmetic surgeon as it usually does require an anaesthetic or heavy sedation because it is painful. The outcome is the smoothing of deep wrinkels, it can permanently lighten the skin as the skin will more than likely be unable to produce pigment after the peel hence it is not recommended for darker skinned individuals. It will get rid of freckles and precancerous growths. One treatment is all that is required due to it's strengh. If you suffer from a history of heart disease then you must make your surgeon aware of this pror to discussing this treatment.

One thing that must not be underestimated after having a phenol chemical face peel is the importance of skin care. The gentler the better and one must keep out of the sun to prevent damage at this stage. After this treatment sun care is of utmost importance, even when the skin is fully healed.

The three chemical face peels above are the most commonly available but there are others available that the practitioner will be able to advise you of.
