A Brief Guide To The Special Auto Ins Policy - By: John Denvert

The special auto ins policy is an initiative that is meant for drivers who, because of meager financial resources, are likely to go uninsured. People currently enrolled in federal hospitalization programs are also eligible for this insurance category. Insurers however determine eligibility of the latter by looking at some numbers on their health cards. This form of insurance is available in specific states only.

The program covers emergency treatment that may follow an accident. This includes treatment for injuries on the brain and spinal cord. A death benefit can also be provided.

However, it does not cover damage that is caused to other people or property. In general, there is no provision for third party damage in the event of an accident. Damages to the car belonging to the individual are also not covered. Outpatient treatment (including doctor visits that are not emergencies) is also not covered under this insurance category.

Upon first application of the cover, one must provide proof of enrollment in special medical schemes. If this enrollment is discontinued when the program is still in effect, then it (the policy) does not expire. Instead, the holder will only get limited benefits.

This program only covers people in specific federal medical schemes. If more there is more than one driver per household, then they are all covered. This also applies if several people in a household are enrolled in these federal medical schemes. However, regulations dictate that there can only be one car per coverage.

One cannot get this coverage if their driving records are less than stellar. If the driving license gets suspended due to driver misconduct, then one is no longer eligible for the coverage. This also applies if the license gets revoked or if one is convicted of a driving offense. Any person who obtains special auto ins policy using fraudulent means is subject to legal penalties that can also include jail terms.
