Many of the best themed fancy dress parties are the ones that concentrate on a particular decade. It may be the 80s, complete with Rubik’s Cubes, or the 20s with gangsters and flappers, or even the 60s complete with hippies and flower power. However, the most popular decade at the moment has to be the 1970s.

The 70s was the golden age of disco and there are lots of costumes evoking that era, inspired by the huge success of ‘Saturday Night Fever’. Whether you see yourself as a strutting John Travolta or as one of the girls from Abba, you can find the perfect fancy dress costume for you. The king of the disco or a dancing queen, you decide.

The 70s fashions were very distinctive and there are also individual items that you can use to make up your own outfit. For example, ladies fancy dress ranges include flared trousers and satin shirts. The gentlemen don’t need to feel left out either. For them there are frilled satin shirts, and the flares are even more outrageously patterned.

The 1970s were a great time for pop and rock stars and you could end up looking like Rod Stewart, Elton John or Mick Jagger in no time at all.

Don’t forget there are also loads of ideal accessories to ensure your costume really stands out. Shoes with enormous platforms were all the rage in the seventies and you would be advised to try them out at home before you head out. Whatever shoes you want to go with your outfit, you’re sure to find them.

To top off your fancy dress outfit, how about trying on wigs, facial hair, eyelashes and specialised make-up?
