If you are a new member to the gym or have been working out for years, there may still be some mistakes that you are making whilst working out. Whether your weight loss goals have yet to be reached past their completion date or you seemed to have reached a brick wall, the following tips will help you to recognise the mistakes you are making, and guide you on how to stop them.

1. Your always going for a workout by yourself
If you find that visiting a gym on your own is easy and you can stay focused then by no means carry on, however even top athletes use training partners. Training buddies support every step of your workout process, from giving you the motivation to get down the gym every morning to competing against your weight loss goal to push you harder. Finding a partner is a great step to keeping fit.

2. Not even flu can stop you visiting the gym
Whoever said to exercise is the best way to get over an illness is completely mad! I’m afraid if you are ill the gym is not going to help. Training weakens your immune system in order to strengthen the muscles you have damaged and a low immune system will only make you worse. Stay in bed with a cup of tea and once you’re better, get straight back on that treadmill.

3. Your workouts turn into a regular routine that is impossible to break
This is a common mistake within gym members and it’s incredibly easy to stick to something you’re good at. But what happens when your body stops improving and this brick wall seems to stem from the same muscles being used each trip? It’s best to change your routine every four to six weeks to ensure your body is still producing the right results. Classes help too!

4. letting your mind rule your body
It’s 5 o’clock and you’ve had a tough day at the office, you can’t think of anything better right now then to go home, eat a huge dinner and snuggle down in front of the television. Right? WRONG! Don’t let your mind rule your body. Your mind may be tired but your body isn’t. If you don’t believe me, head down to the gym after work and see for yourself.

5. Visiting the gym for a chat and a catch up
Neither you nor your gym friends are going to push your body to the max whilst chatting and walking on the running machines. Arranging dinner and catching up is for outside the gym and although a training buddy is a great idea, a chatting buddy will damage your routine and make you lose focus on how much training you’re actually doing.
