The prospect of vacationing is always fun, unless you’re being dragged on a road trip with the parents on your 16th birthday when you’d rather be cruising around in the car you didn’t get … personal experience? Perhaps. The truth is that everything’s better when it has a theme - especially when it’s a vacation. Before winter ends pick a theme, choose the destination or destinations, find cheap airline tickets and we guarantee you’ll end up doing and seeing things you never would have otherwise thought of. 1. Olympics. So it’s probably too late catch any cheap flights to Vancouver for the 2010 winter Olympics, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy an Olympics-themed vacation. You can live the Olympic spirit by visiting former Olympics destination. 2. Sweets. Take a trip to Chicago, the reigning Candy Capital of the World, Hershey, Penn., the M&Ms store in Las Vegas, Orlando, or New York or all of the above! 3. Warmth. There’s something special and almost magical about a winter wonderland, but the dream-like qualities of snow can wear off really fast when you spend every winter trying to survive the solstice snowstorms. Phoenix has a moderate winter with tons of shopping, Miami has beautiful beaches and an always-steamy climate, and Hawaii’s low-key winter weather is the envy of pretty much everywhere. Although you may be hard pressed to find cheap airfare to these sunshine locations, it can never hurt to sign up for the deal alerts from some of the discount airfare Websites.

4. Romance. February may be the month for lovin’, but we say there’s no better time for some romance than right now. Nothing says I love you like a spontaneous vacation right? The spas of Sedona and the scenic red rocks make for a romantic weekend any time of the year. Keep your eyes peeled on the Web for cheap flights to New York or San Francisco; they’ve got everything a girl needs: shopping and the finest dining and everything a guy needs: sports stadiums and a historical prison on an island that’s the setting for a kick-ass Sean Connery film. They say Virginia is for lovers, but you shouldn’t count out New Orleans. Take a horse-drawn carriage ride through the French Quarter at night, find a luxury boutique hotel, or a cheap hotel if you’re on a budget, and hop from live music to live music venue every night.

5. History. Maybe now that you’re older you can truly appreciate the rich history of our country. There’s no one telling you that your historical road trip has to be anything like the one you took in fifth grade in the family station wagon. In fact, on your trip, you could take to the skies if you find some cheap airline tickets. There’s nothing but history to see in Washington, D.C., but you may also want to consider a trip to Montana for a tour of battleground where General Custer took his last stand or to Virginia to see George Washington’s home.
