5 Steps to Making My Mornings Less Hectic - By: Linda Ann Aviles

Are you are like the millions of people around the world who struggle to get up in the morning to get to school or work on time? Waking up in the morning can be a drag especially when you have to run a million errands before stepping out of the house. I used to go through the same morning struggles like everyone else. I would wake up after the 3rd or 4th time of hitting the snooze button. I would struggle to get out of bed and would barely make it to work on time. I would be cranky all day long because of how stressful my morning routines where. My mornings involved getting up at 6:00 am and rushing to the bathroom, taking a shower, getting dress, brushing my teeth, getting my daughter ready for school, making breakfast for my family, waking up my husband, making my husband's lunch, picking up anything that was laying around the house, taking my daughter to my mom's house, beating traffic and trying my best to get to my job before 7:00! I usually didn't have time to eat breakfast because I was such in a rush which was the biggest mistake ever! I would be cranky all day and when it was time for lunch, I would grab the first thing that was in sight and it would usually involved something high in fat or sugary.

I finally decided that I needed a change and developed a new morning routine. It has worked wonders for me and hopefully it will do wonders for anyone who is reading:

1. I would wake up at 5:00 am and not 6:00 am. This gave me an extra hour of my morning madness. When I decided to wake up at 5:00 am, I made sure to go to bed earlier then I usually would. I wanted to get my full 8 hours of sleep so I was in bed by 9:00pm not 10:00pm. Why 9 pm instead of 10 pm? I figured that going to bed at exactly 10:00 pm will be a big mistake because I always struggled to go to sleep fast and I knew that 10:oo pm would mean going to sleep at 11:00 pm.
2. Before going to bed I would prepare my husbands lunch and have it packed and ready to go in the morning. I would also make sure everyone knew what clothes they where going to wear in the morning as well. This helped having to run around the house in the morning looking for any missing shoes!
3. I placed the alarm clock across the bed from where I slept instead of next to the bed. I would have to get up to hit the snooze button instead of the luxury of having it placed by the bed and being able to hit the snooze button a thousand times.
4. I hate leaving my house a mess. I made sure that the house was nice and tidy before leaving my home. I got rid of the million different bed sheets I had on the bed and replaced the bed sheets with just a fitted sheet and duvet cover. This definitely made mornings less difficult. I loved how my husband didn't mind making the bed because of the change.
5. Last but definitely not least, I got my daughter up and early as well. Kids can be a struggle to get out of bed. I made sure to get her in bed by 8:00 pm in order for her to get her full night's sleep and wouldn't give me a tough time to get her out of bed in the morning.
