5 Reasons Why Diet Plans for Weight Loss Often Fail: Old Habits Die Hard - By: Isabel De Los Rios

Losing weight is a battle of the mind. No matter which diet plans for weight loss you’ve tried, if you are still struggling with shedding pounds, it could have more to do with the way you are mentally approaching your goals. Our bodies are directly dictated by what our mind tells us to do. If you are in the habit of “cheating” on your diet time and time again, you may have created a barrier that will ultimately sabotage your diet efforts.

Top 5 Reasons Why Your Diet Program Isn’t Working

1. Not Paying Attention

This may seem pretty general, but far too often the reason that we can’t seem to lose weight and keep it off is because we just don’t pay enough attention to what we are putting into our body. The majority of our calorie intake should be coming from foods that are found in nature. Fruits, raw nuts, veggies, and unprocessed meats are where you are going to get the most bang for your calorie buck.

Are you spending too much time worrying about unimportant details like should you or shouldn’t you be snacking, should you eat every 4 hours, or should you not eat past 5 pm? You should be paying close attention to what food you are eating, not so much when.

2. Overeating Empty Calories

This is another very common occurrence. In America, our portion sizes are so far out of the realm of “normal” that we may not know how much we should really be eating at each sitting. Our grandparents ate much less than we do today; even their cup sizes and plate sizes were significantly smaller. So if you feel like you may be overeating with empty calories or just overeating in general, reduce your portions in half for 7 days. If hunger strikes, reach for a healthy snack like organic peanut butter and a green apple.

3. Not Recognizing Dehydration

We all know that drinking water is great for your body and keeps it functioning like it should, but what most of us don’t know is that dehydration can actually add to weight gain. Mistaking thirst for hunger can leave you grazing on snacks and empty calories all day long. If you are not drinking half your body weight in ounces of water a day, then those hunger pangs you often feel may just be a need for a big glass of water.

4. Not Moving Enough

Exercise is the key in your weight loss goals, and while we always read that getting even exercise will help you to lose those unwanted pounds, some of us don’t actually put that into daily practice. If you want to lose weight, you have to exercise.

5. Make the Time

No one has time these days, but don’t let busyness rob you of a healthy body and healthy weight. If you make exercise and diet a priority, you will not only be able to rock a swimsuit with confidence, but you can actually add years to your lifespan. So while you think you may not have time, making your health a priority is one of the most important things you can do.

Losing weight is a combination of exercise and time management, not the unending search for one of the next diet plans for weight loss that claim to really work…
