5 Reasons Why Being a Vegetarian Is Good For You.

If you’re reading this you must be mulling over the idea of becoming a vegetarian for one reason or another. Whatever your reasons for considering this change in the first place you should also consider what benefits there are to be had from the vegetarian lifestyle. I’ve listed some for you to think about while you make up your mind.

1. Weight Control
Everyone knows that to lose weight you have to cut calories. A massive amount of calories are contained in the form of fat. Animals are often overfed to fatten them up so the farmer gets bigger profits from larger animals. This fat is then transferred to your plate no matter how much you trim the cuts. My removing meat from your diet and following a healthy vegetarian eating plan you should be able to slim down. By slim down I don’t mean have a supermodel skinny body. Just a normal healthy weight for your size.

2. Its Safer
Cattle are often fed growth hormones these days. If the meat you eat is not free range organically fed meat then these hormones end up in your food. As yet no one can categorically say that these hormones are risk to your health. But do you want to take the chance?

3. A Stronger Immune System
Some farmers use antibiotics to ward of infection in their herds as a matter of routine. These antibiotics stay in the meat which you then eat. When these drugs are too routinely used viruses become “immune” to antibiotics and therefore more of a danger to humans. In the 1960s before the overuse of antibiotics in animals the percentage of staphylococci infections resistant to penicillin was just 14%. By 1988 this had risen to 91%.

4. Protection from Diseases and Ailments
Vegetarians are much less likely to suffer from anaemia, appendicitis, arthritis, constipation, diabetes, gallstones, gout, hypertension (high blood pressure), indigestion, haemorrhoids and varicose veins. Blood cholesterol levels in vegetarians are generally around 20% lower than those of meat eaters which reduces the risk of heart failure and cancer considerably.

5. General Fitness
Vegetarians are generally fitter than their meat eating counterparts. They recover from illness and injury quicker and spend less time at the doctor or in hospital. Did you also know that many of the world’s greatest athletes are vegetarian?
