4 Reasons a Courier’s Life Rocks! - By: Norman Dulwich

If you’re looking for work as a courier, chances are you have an idea of some of the advantages of being in the delivery business. That’s probably why you want to get into it in the first place!

And who wouldn’t? For those reliable, dependable, and hardworking enough to do a good job, it’s the kind of work that pays well, not just in financial benefits, but in intangible benefits as well. Here are a few reasons why the job of a courier is definitely cool.

Travel

If ever there was a job where you’d automatically be described as someone who is ‘going places, then, being a courier is definitely it. Unlike regular office workers who sit cooped up in an office all day, you’re always heading out to different places. The road, the wind, and a host of awesome sights are in front of you every day - now who wouldn’t want that? Sure, some jobs may require going to the same destinations several times a week, or even a day, and the inside of a van may be smaller than a cubicle, but just think - it’s a whole lot better than being stuck at a desk. Plus, you get to see more people every day than if you were imprisoned inside an office!

No Strict Dress Code

No stifling tie and stuffy coat for you! You can dress for comfort and convenience as much as you want to, whether that means checked shirts and trucker caps, or bike shorts and a jersey! Nobody’s going to drag you down to human resources for skipping this week’s haircut either – the windblown look is ‘de rigueur’. Of course, you should still project and maintain a certain amount of respectability in your presentation, but other than that, you’re free to choose!

You Can Play Your Music As Loud As You Want

There’s no person at the other end of the cubicle to complain about your choice of entertainment. You can rock out with the volume set as high as you want to when you’re driving down the road for a delivery. And if you want to sing along to Whitney Houston and Celine Dion at the top of your voice, that’s fine too! Who’s going to know?

Free Exercise

Health experts agree that the sedentary life most desk-jockeys lead is to blame for the prevalence of heart disease, obesity, and other problems. As a courier, chances are, that won’t be your problem. If you’re a bike messenger, then your job is your workout; if you’re a van driver, you’ll have to expend a certain amount of physical exertion as well – loading and unloading.

We’re not saying the job is easy: it takes hard work, efficiency, and a commitment to getting the job done. But if you’ve got what it takes to be in the delivery business, you’ll quickly find out that it’s way more fun than most jobs – it rocks!
